Ferdinand Porsche - Genesis Of Genius (standard Edition) by Book

weight 3.2 kg by Karl Ludvigsen Ferdinand Porsche is of course usually connected with his eponymous sports car company, the VW Beetle and maybe the great Auto Union Grand Prix cars but it is with the latter that this magnificent tome ends. Renowned journalist and historian Karl Ludvigsen instead concentrates on the earlier career of Porsche from 1900 - 1933, of which little has been written until now. The first vehicle to bear Porsche's name was a four wheel drive electric phaeton that he designed while employed at Jacob Lohner & Co, which featured such innovations as electric motors built into the wheels. In 1901, Porsche & Lohner built a hybrid with a Daimler engine and electric drive and it is a few years before we move on to what we would consider conventional petrol engined cars. Porsche's skills were in demand and he moved through many of the major Austrian and German manufacturers such as Daimler and Mercedes. In addition to his work on cars, Porsche was also involved in the design of aircraft, trains, tanks, trucks, pretty much anything that was self propelled! We've barely room to scratch the surface and these superbly researched 496 pages are packed with information, detailed drawings and rare archive photos and documentation.
