Silverstone’s First Grand Prix
Weight 800g by Anthony Meredith & Gordon Blackwell
The layout used for the first Grand Prix at the now famous Silverstone circuit was pretty terrifying, with the cars heading at flat chat down the runways to opposing hairpin bends in the middle and then using sections of the perimeter road to link the straights! This superbly researched account tells of that first race and also of the organisation behind it, both at the circuit and in the RAC club in Pall Mall. There are plenty of photographs both period and modern which show what has survived of the original airfield and the text is written in an engaging style that encourages the reader to settle in and devour the whole lot in one go.
