Jochen Rindt, Uncrowned King by Book
weight 1.9kg by David Tremayne
Jochen Rindt was more or less unknown when he lined up on the grid for an F2 race at Crystal Palace in 1964, but everyone there left knowing that he was something rather special. Considered by many, Jackie Stewart and Bernie Ecclestone among them, to be possibly the fastest driver ever to sit in a racing car, his career and life were cut tragically short in 1970 at the age of just 28. Respected motor sport historian and journalist who felt that Rindt's story is one that has perhaps been neglected, most true motor sport fans know him as the only posthumous World Champion, but what beyond that? Here he takes an in depth look into this great driver's early life and upbringing, having been orphaned in the war and raised by his grandparents in Austria, and through his all too short career and life. Many of his contemporaries add their input including Jacky Ickx who expresses his relief that he didn't win the US GP in 1970, for if he had many would have forgotten this great talent.
