Mat Irvine is a very experienced modeller whose preferred models are plastic car kits but who also builds models for television and film, particularly sci-fi items. Here he looks at the history of the plastic kit and takes us through several projects from out of the box builds to complex custom jobs. Although the models featured are all 1:24 or 1:25, he goes through the spectrum of materials with resin and white metal parts getting a look in and there are many advanced techniques highlighted. There are also sections on rescuing old models with details of how to strip paint from delicate parts and this could be particularly useful to many modellers, judging by our email inbox. Slightly off topic for our usual models perhaps, but very interesting reading and useful to modellers whatever the subject.
