Bugatti, The Designer - Inventions, Ideas and Follies
The Bugatti name is generally associated with quality motor cars but the family of artists and designers were involved in all manner of manufacturing. This soft bound history more or less ignores the cars and instead concentrates on some of the thousand or so patents that Ettore Bugatti filed during his life, some successful, other pure folly. There are shaft driven bicycles, tilting trains (Jean Bugatti filing a patent in 1938) horse drawn carriages, domestic iron mongery, surgical tools and aero engines among the subjects looked at here. The images are all in black and white and the layout of the book is very basic, but it makes for interesting reading whether you’re specifically interested in Bugatti or in the history of design in general.
