Ian Walker’s racing team was most commonly associated with Lotus cars and for some time was considered the Lotus ‘B’ team, with the latest equipment and attracting many of the best drivers of the day. Walker himself was a North London car dealer and a close friend of Colin Chapman and Graham Hill. He was a fair driver in his own right competing in sports and saloon car races and also on rallies, running as a Ford works driver on the Monte Carlo with Hill as co-driver! His high standards of preparation led to his team being one to beat and his keen business sense soon saw parts supply companies being started, his FAI concern now being one of the UK’s largest aftermarket component suppliers. He also had a keen interest in aviation, flying light aircraft and having another company that made display models for airlines. Many readers may also have built one or more of his models, Merit Kits being another Walker enterprise.
