Elva, The Cars, The People by Book
The 1950s saw the rise of many small sports and racing car manufacturers in England and much has been written about marques such as Lotus and Lola who went right to the top levels of the sport. There are other names that though familiar to enthusiast, particularly those of smaller formulae, there is very little information about and Elva is one such. Founded by Frank Nicholls, who had trained as a mechanic in the army during WW2 and started a garage business near Bexhill on the south coast with his demob pay in 1947, Elva cars went on to make some very successful road and race cars during the fifties and sixties. This very well researched and extremely detailed history tells the stories of Nicholls, the people who worked with him, some of the drivers and of course the cars.
