The nature of the full Nordschleife Nurburgring circuit makes this 24 Hour race one of the most challenging and also allows for a huge field of starters. One hundred and seventy three cars started the warm up lap (the sole McLaren catching fire before crossing the start line!) and these ranged from GT3 Audis, Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs and Aston Martins which would battle for the win right down to the clubmen in their Civics and Clios. There are a mind boggling number of classes and this excellent annual explains all of these and the races going on within them as well as the overall picture of the weekend. The weather played a huge part in proceedings in 2013, the rain starting a couple of hours into the race and getting so heavy in the night that the cloud was down to track level and the organisers had to make the unprecedented decision to suspend the race for several hours in the night.
