Lotus 7 S4 Green by MEA Kit 43

Produced for three years from 1970 - 1972, the Lotus 7 S4 (or type 60 to give it it’s factory number) was an attempt to bring the bare bones Lotus concept a little more upmarket. The styling wasn’t particularly well received by the purists and there is a mis-conception that the car was a sales failure but the reality is that nearly twice as many were sold as the first three Seven variants in roughly a third of the time. The castings in the kit will need careful handling as they are in the usual brittle resin we find in MEA kits and they will need a little clean up. The basic shape looks good but the rear lights aren’t quite square, something which is very evident on the built model. The Dunlop alloy wheels are very finely cast and there’s a decent amount of etch for such a simple kit that includes front suspension parts, the windscreen frame and the options of sidescreens. With care this should all build well and the built model is reasonably good, though we’re sure that the experienced hobby builder without the time constraints of needing to earn a living from the model would be able to do a slightly better job.

About MEA Kit 43

An interesting range initially specialising in 1:43 motorcycles. The nature of the subjects and the size of many of the parts mean that these are best suited to those with good eyesight! Casting quality is variable and this combined with the size puts them firmly in the 'for the experienced modeller' category. Alongside the bikes are a number of Dakar raid subjects and early Lotus race cars, again offered as kits and hand builts. The SPL series is hand built only and concentrates on very unusual race cars. Build quality is basic, variable and nowhere near the class leaders and usually presented in recycled Spark cases. Very interesting subjects that may otherwise not be modelled and therefore for the hardcore collector. Made in France.

A dedicated team, we provide the personal touch!
