Mercedes 300SLR 1st MM 1955 #722 by MEA Kit 43
The Mille Migila victory of Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson has rightly gone down as one of the most impressive pieces of motor racing history, Jenks’s idea to use what we now know as pace-notes enabling an incredible near 100mph average speed to be maintained on the open Italian roads. The car has been modelled many times over the years but this is the only current production kit and it’s a pretty friendly looking one, harking back to the ‘good old days’ of Starter or Provence Moulage. The main resin body is well proportioned and cleanly cast, with reasonable panel engraving and just a little flash to be removed. The seats are moulded into the floor but this won’t be an issue as the surrounding interior parts are separate pieces and the decals include the tartan style fabric pattern. The hand built model is generally well finished with a realistic level of gloss to the paint and all of the small etched details included in the kit have been carefully placed. This is certainly a step forward for MEA.

About MEA Kit 43
An interesting range initially specialising in 1:43 motorcycles. The nature of the subjects and the size of many of the parts mean that these are best suited to those with good eyesight! Casting quality is variable and this combined with the size puts them firmly in the 'for the experienced modeller' category.
Alongside the bikes are a number of Dakar raid subjects and early Lotus race cars, again offered as kits and hand builts. The SPL series is hand built only and concentrates on very unusual race cars. Build quality is basic, variable and nowhere near the class leaders and usually presented in recycled Spark cases. Very interesting subjects that may otherwise not be modelled and therefore for the hardcore collector.
Made in France.
