Mallock U2 Mk2 Formula Junior 1960 by MEA Kit 43
Major Arthur Mallock’s cars were most commonly used in Clubmans races such as the original 1172 Formula, but a handful also took part in single seater races. A pair of cars were built for Formula Junior in 1959, Mallock himself driving one and John Harwood the other, both drivers winning races against the Lotus 18s. Another foray into single seater territory happened between 1969 and 1971 with a handful of cars built for Formula Ford, Mallock’s son Richard driving one, but by this point it was clear that they were not competitive against the mid-engined machines. The earlier car had a split beam front axle while the FFord version had double wishbones at the front and the bodywork had also evolved somewhat. The bodyshapes on the models aren’t bad but as usual with kit parts from this range a fair amount of preparation will be needed prior to paint. The smaller parts are cleanly cast and there is even some braided wire included for brake hoses which are neatly fitted on the hand builts. These aren’t the most up to date models and are really for the more experienced builder, but they’re great subjects and let’s hope that some clubmans cars follow.

About MEA Kit 43
An interesting range initially specialising in 1:43 motorcycles. The nature of the subjects and the size of many of the parts mean that these are best suited to those with good eyesight! Casting quality is variable and this combined with the size puts them firmly in the 'for the experienced modeller' category.
Alongside the bikes are a number of Dakar raid subjects and early Lotus race cars, again offered as kits and hand builts. The SPL series is hand built only and concentrates on very unusual race cars. Build quality is basic, variable and nowhere near the class leaders and usually presented in recycled Spark cases. Very interesting subjects that may otherwise not be modelled and therefore for the hardcore collector.
Made in France.
