Austin Healey Sprite 33rd Nurburgring 1000kms 1969 #40 Wheeler/Davidson by MEA Kit 43
Jack Wheeler acquired his ex-works Sebring Sprite from Austin Healey in 1960 and over the following years the car evolved whilst being used for various club racing events. It was then retired while the build of a lightweight Mini was begun. Over a few beers, Wheeler and his housemates decided to dust off the Sprite and enter a number of events with it from 1969 onwards, including several Targa Florios and races at the Nurburgring. Here we see the car in 1969 form and in terms of shape and decoration, the models look good. The finish is a little rustic, as is typical for this range, but that suits the car perfectly, the aluminium doorskins of the original having been bent over the owner's knee!

About MEA Kit 43
An interesting range initially specialising in 1:43 motorcycles. The nature of the subjects and the size of many of the parts mean that these are best suited to those with good eyesight! Casting quality is variable and this combined with the size puts them firmly in the 'for the experienced modeller' category.
Alongside the bikes are a number of Dakar raid subjects and early Lotus race cars, again offered as kits and hand builts. The SPL series is hand built only and concentrates on very unusual race cars. Build quality is basic, variable and nowhere near the class leaders and usually presented in recycled Spark cases. Very interesting subjects that may otherwise not be modelled and therefore for the hardcore collector.
Made in France.
