Bowler #395, Race2Recovery by MEA Kit 43
Bowler Dakar 2014 #395, Race2Recovery
The Race to Recovery project saw a group of wounded British military personal teamed with able-bodied co-drivers tackle the Dakar in both 2013 and 2014, driving adapted Bowler Wildcats. The objectives of the project are two-fold, to directly help rehabilitate those who have lost limbs and who are part of the team and to raise money of the veteran’s charity Help For Heroes. Of the cars modelled here, the 2013 entry finished the event in ninety-first place, while the 2014 entry retired with electrical problems on the second day, though its crew then continued with the support vehicles to help their comrades. The basic shape of MEA’s Bowler is not bad and the decals look pretty good, but as is often the case, the finish of the models isn’t the greatest. These subjects are hand built only and in very limited numbers.

About MEA Kit 43
An interesting range initially specialising in 1:43 motorcycles. The nature of the subjects and the size of many of the parts mean that these are best suited to those with good eyesight! Casting quality is variable and this combined with the size puts them firmly in the 'for the experienced modeller' category.
Alongside the bikes are a number of Dakar raid subjects and early Lotus race cars, again offered as kits and hand builts. The SPL series is hand built only and concentrates on very unusual race cars. Build quality is basic, variable and nowhere near the class leaders and usually presented in recycled Spark cases. Very interesting subjects that may otherwise not be modelled and therefore for the hardcore collector.
Made in France.
