Ligier JS17 1st Austria 1981 #25/26 Tambay/Laffite by Tameo Kits
The 1981 Ligier JS17 was a highly successful Formula 1 car, marking the return of Matra engines to the French team and securing two Grand Prix victories (Austria and Canada) with Jacques Laffite. Designed by Gérard Ducarouge, the JS17 was powered by the naturally aspirated Matra MS81 engine, which replaced the team’s long-standing Ford Cosworth DFV. The Matra engine’s higher fuel consumption required a larger, longer fuel tank. Ducarouge also introduced adaptive hydropneumatic suspension to fully exploit ground effect, allowing the car to compete with the era’s more powerful turbocharged rivals. The 1981 Austrian Grand Prix, held on Sunday, August 16 at the Österreichring, was the eleventh round of the 1981 Formula 1 World Championship. The race was won by Jacques Laffite in the Ligier-Matra, marking his fifth career victory in the championship.
