Ferrari 312 Spain 1969 #15 Amon Decal by SilverLine
The 1969 Spanish Grand Prix, the second race of the
1969 Formula 1 championship, was held on May 4 at the Montjuïc Circuit and was
won by Jackie Stewart in a Matra-Ford Cosworth. The race would be marked by a
proliferation of ever-higher winglets on the cars. Ferrari had also equipped
Chris Amon's single-seater with a very high rear wing over the rear wheels.
Starting second, he found himself in the lead of the GP thanks to the accidents
of the two Lotuses but had to retire on lap 56 due to engine problems. The
failure of the rear wing supports on the two Lotuses driven by Hill and Rindt
led the International Sports Commission to intervene with a sudden change in
the regulations starting on the second day of practice of the following Monaco
Grand Prix when high wings were permanently banned for safety reasons.
