San Marco-Ferrari Boat Pavia-Venezia 58 by GAG
San Marco-Ferrari Boat Pavia-Venezia 1958
The San Marco boat yard was based in the Milan suburb of Novegro and enjoyed plenty of success with smaller engined racing hydroplanes, their products scooping many records. The Ferrari-powered (375 V12) two-seater was one of a handful of larger machines and was built in 1958, but didn’t race on the Pavia-Venezia river marathon until 1960. Period photos show that the boat wore the name Maurizio 1º on either side of the tail, rather than the pennant seen here which is on the restored machine. The long, sleek shape of the boat is well replicated and the wooden hull is hand painted with reasonably convincing woodgrain effect, although this is a little dark.
