Jaguar D-Type 1st Palm Springs 1955/Torrey Pines 1956 #36/63 by Marsh Models

These two Jaguar D Type subjects came about thanks to the efforts of long time friend of Marsh Models and Grand Prix Models, Tom Nathan in New York. Tom grew up in California and found images of these cars in his collection recently. There is actually potential for three version in the kit as the red car (XKD522) driven by Shelby at Palm Springs in December 1955 was then entered for Sherwood Johnstone at Torrey Pines in January ‘56 but he crashed it in practice and so took over Jerry Austin’s dark green machine (XKD527) for the race. Both were standard short nose cars with a head fairing and no fin and Marsh’s kit parts capture the shapes well. In addition to Tom’s photos, we’ve also found colour video footage online of the Palm Springs race and the red car features regularly, showing the model to be pretty accurate. Slightly obscure, but interesting Jaguar subjects.

About Marsh Models

Well established maker of high quality 1:43 kits and hand-built models. Kits feature very precisely moulded resin bodies requiring minimal clean up, equally good white metal ancillary parts, very fine photo-etching where necessary, machined wheel rims, bespoke resin tyres and clearly printed decals. Instructions usually a clearly drawn exploded diagram and often include a sample paint chip if the main body colour is an unusual one. Hand-builts beautifully built and detailed, usually from a series of 100 pieces but LE range typically from only 25. Made in England
